A Walk in a Park

There's a park nearby called Central Park.

At this park, there's a marsh with a boardwalk you can walk out on.

It's a great area for viewing birds and bugs.

The pathway through the marsh used to be longer, but for whatever reason, parts of it went into disrepair and were simply closed off rather than fixed.

Thankfully, the boardwalk is still long enough to take you out into the middle of the marsh.

I wanted every bug I saw to crawl onto my hand.

Some were more shy than others, though, and wouldn't let me get very close.

I did manage to find a friendly dragonfly.

That made me pretty happy.

I put my finger up by his front legs, and he readily climbed onto my hand.

I think it surprised Mom as much as me.

I have no fear of insects.

In fact, Mom has to tell me to be really careful around some (like wasps).

There are interesting flowers along the path, as well.

Towards the end of the boardwalk, the marsh opens up more to reveal open water covered in algae.

I kept wanting to step on the algae, thinking it was solid underneath.

It's a really fun path, and I recommend checking it out.

It's the perfect length for little legs, although you have to watch to make sure they don't wander too close to the edge.

After Mom and I returned home, we found some wrens in our yard chirping quite madly at us.

It turns out, the male was making a nest under our deck.

And I think the female was wanting to check it out to see if it was worth moving into.

Neither one was happy to have us around.

But Mom was happy to get some pictures.

We went back inside to give the wrens their space, and I turned to the piano to keep myself busy.
